The puppies enjoyed a visit today where they got to toddle in the play area and be held by several different people.

Today we reorganized Callie’s whelping box. They now have a nest, a snuggle toy, and a potty area. They are using the potty area about 95% of the time. Callie keeps a very clean house!

2 Weeks Old today! Callie’s puppies are thriving! All have doubled their birth weight and the litter is content. All eyes are open, but their ears are still closed. We expect to see a startle response in the next day or so. The pups have had their first visitors, another nail trim, time out of the whelping box to explore, and are slowly being introduced to Dottie’s litter. They were introduced to a nest and potty area today. You’ll see their new setup in the gallery below. We are enjoying watching them grow!

This is Callie’s largest litter, but she is producing enough milk to make sure all the puppies meet their weight goals. On average, we expect puppies to double their birth weight by day 10. These sweet puppies have been handled, stroked, and cuddled multiple times per day after the first 48 hours. They’ve also had their first nail trim!

This is Callie’s 4th litter and she’s a pro! The puppies are growing and will soon look like little fur balls.

Callie gave birth to a beautiful litter of 4 girls and 2 boys on Thursday, August 17th. True to form, she labored most of the night before the first puppy was born at 5:43am. The last puppy was born at 7:45am.

new setup

Overhead shot of the puppies new home. The grey whelping pad provides warmth and traction for the puppies. They are better able to regulate their body temperature so the heating pad has been removed and a nest has been added to the box. They want to keep their nest clean so we’re taking advantage of that natural instinct and lay the foundation for potty training by adding a potty pad covered by a simple grate.
